PrintProgram Overview

The Learn To Play Hockey is run by professional experienced instructors to teach the fundamental skills that will provide the self-confidence needed to enjoy the game of hockey. No previous hockey experience is required.

Players will be grouped according to skill levels and there will be several groups on the ice. Players will be shifted during the program according to their development. By the end of the season, players will learn all the fundamentals of the game.

Mouthguards are mandatory for all players.

The session focuses on a program of teaching five basic skills, called “SKILLS 5”

 Stop Start Forward Backward Turns
 Fundamental stopping progressions:  1-foot side stops both directions  Edges  Knowledge of inside and outside edges  Progressions of cross-overs
 Basic stops-Forward  V push  Knowledge of inside and outside edges  Development of balance and body alignment  2 foot 3 turns both ways forwards and backward
 Basic stops-Backward  C cuts  Development of balance plus body alignment  Progressions of cross-overs  1 foot 3 turns forwards
 2 feet side stops both directions  Strides  Progressions of cross-overs    Mohawk progressions
 1-foot side stops both directions        Development of transitions and rhythm of turns
         

The Learn to Play program consists of instruction, interesting games, and activities, all leading up to playing hockey games.

The program will run once a week starting mid-October.
